#TECHNOLOGY TREND IN THE MARITIME-PORT SECTOR
Thrusday 27th June, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Palazzo San Giorgio – Sala del Capitano
Technological innovation, often disruptive for the structures of several sectors, is now a constant in every sphere of society and economy. The maritime-port sector is no exception. Some innovations are attributable to a logic of internal development of the sector in terms of improving operational performance through the advancement of technology.
Trends such as autonomous ships are part of a wider phenomenon, for which shipping and port services are just an application example, although important and with their own specificities.
This category also includes advanced materials, sensors, communication technologies, big data and their analysis, robotics and automation. In most advanced ports, the handling of containers is often entrusted to unmanned service vehicles and now the projects to extend this automation even to the inner harbors, remotely controlled, are finally seemingly entering the realization phase. The session explores the analysis of available and developing technologies, their impact, and presents application case histories promoted by leading companies in the sector. A panel will be dedicated to the strategies that governments, local authorities, universities, ports and large companies are pursuing to encourage the creation and growth of innovative start-ups in the maritime-port sector.
Main Topics:
- Evolution in navigation and communication systems
- Maritime autonomous systems
- Automation of port and inner harbor handling
