The European TEN-T corridors revival is currently being developed in two aspects: on the one hand the identification and inclusion of new infrastructural routes, on the other the creation and strengthening of a network of digital services to be integrated in the physical ones. Both aim to eliminate bottlenecks that reduce efficiency and increase logistics costs. Liguria is today affected by three TEN-T corridors: Mediterranean, Rhine-Alps and Scandinavia-Mediterranean. The first is an important novelty after the inclusion of the Genoa-Marseille route among the recognized routes, which must now be concretely implemented by completing the doubling of the railway mono-track and, on French territory, by constructing city bypasses. For the Rhine-Alps the most important work is the Terzo Valico, while the Brenner Base Tunnel stands out for the Scandinavia-Mediterranean. But these, especially the latter, risk ending up as just ideas, if they’re not supported by ancillary works, from intermodal connections to warehouses, to the adaptation of upstream and downstream lines.

But the corridors are not just physical. Non-secondary elements of logistical inefficiencies, and the choice of a director with respect to another, are the corporate and cross-company administrative processes and customs, tax and health procedures. That part of logistics that relies on the maritime and port sector only makes the issue more complicated, because of the involvement of different actors, subject to differentiated regulations and often on an international scale. Starting from the digitalization of documents and contracts between private parties, then moving onto digital exchanges to and from the control authorities, bottlenecks can however be eliminated or greatly reduced.

The session will take into consideration the most significant initiatives, both physically and digitally, both at project level and already operational or underway. The participation of the commissioners of the three corridors is expected.

Main Topics:

  • State of the art of the TEN-T corridors concerning Liguria
  • Identified solutions: Genoa-Marseille doubling, Savona-Alexandria upgrade, Terzo Valico…
  • Between the port and the inner harbor: iron, rubber, or … BRUCO!
  • Fast corridors, from customs to other kinds of authorizations
  • Document management digitalization
  • Interoperability of the customs port system
  • Development of seamless intramodality and traceability of goods in multi-operator environments
